God is a Concept

Mar. 11, 2017

Where to begin ... something I read today from a very good person that believes in God, during discussions about gays, and abortion, who tends to follow the dogma of, I guess you could call it, 'hard line' Christianism. In her view both are quite wrong, and she produced multiple scripture references as undeniable proof. As the discussion meandered across the vast spectrum of what is 'right' and 'wrong' she became quite frustrated and exclaimed at one point "You people are putting the God of the Universe in a tiny likeable box YOU have made". I simply had to segue from reader to participant...

That statement compels me to beg this one question - exactly what evidence is there that a 'God of the Universe' even exists at all, except in the annals of human evolution, when confronted with a mystery not yet explained by science, such as lightning, became a 'god'? In other words, there is absolutely not one shred of proof that 'God', your god, or anyone's god actually exists or ever existed.

But one thing we do know for sure, the myriad of different and opposing belief systems, based upon the god concept of an all powerful being that is not on the earth plane, rather, existing out in the galaxies, who also has a specific set of rules and a plan for ALL the humans on the earth, depending upon the dogma of whatever particular religion you are addressing, that this alone is the single most perpetuating force behind almost every single act of atrocity against mankind, babies and children included, via the endless religious wars fought throughout all the known centuries.

Religion breeds war. It is a fact. Human beings, Christians, Muslims, Jews, it doesn't really matter, can be convinced into exterminating other human beings, children and babies included, or even themselves and their own families, while 'taking out' those of an opposing religious standpoint, in the name of their particular god. In fact, Christians have wreaked probably the most heinous havoc upon mankind over the past 2000 years in that regard. I attended Christian churches as a child and clearly remember the song "Onward Christian Soldiers" and also remember clearly thinking at the time "that's not very loving" and it most certainly is not.

I prefer to reject the concept of god entirely and embrace the Love that is within every human heart, if it is allowed to thrive. And in the words of John Lennon "God is a concept by which we measure our pain" if you sub in the word "mystery" "confusion" or "meaning" for the word "pain", it works just as well. In other words, god is a concept -- that is all. But Love! Love is a reality that you can tangibly feel, share, and act on -- in the moment as well as in the entirety of your life -- and Love does not judge, exclude, nor condemn.

Some say 'God is Love', I prefer to say 'Love is God' Namaste.
